Aldi Seeing Record Sales Of Alcohol-Free Drinks During Dry January

Aldi has revealed that it is experiencing its biggest Dry January on record, with sales of non-alcoholic beverages up significantly compared to last year as consumers continue to change their drinking habits.

Aldi-greysons-alcohol-freeThe discounter has seen a nearly 190% year-on-year increase in sales of its Zerozecco sparkling wine alternative, selling over 200,000 glasses of the 0% alcohol variant in the first two weeks of January.

Aldi’s 0% beer range is also experiencing strong demand, with more than 40,000 bottles and cans sold every day. Meanwhile, the discounter’s new Greyson’s Alcohol-Free ready-to-drink cans are selling at more than 100 an hour.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable alcohol-free alternatives for our customers. This surge in sales of our Zerozecco and other non-alcoholic options indicates a growing demand for Dry January and mindful drinking.”

NAM Implications:
  • Also an endorsement of the growing appeal of Low/No for young drinkers…
  • The key will be how branded alcohol makers find ways into the Aldi/discounter offering…
