Waitrose has revealed that it has seen a surge in demand for low- and no-alcohol drinks this summer.
Compared to this time last year, sales of low and no spirits (+85%), wine (+21%), beer (+50%), and cider (+28%) have increased considerably.
Activity on the Waitrose website also highlights the trend, with a rise in searches such as Non alcoholic drinks (+185%), Non alcoholic beer (+116%), Non alcoholic lager (+756%), and Non alcoholic cocktail (+128%). Meanwhile, recipe searches include Mocktail recipes (+77%), Pineapple, lime and ginger beer cooler (+25%), and Summer blush (+54%)
Sarah Holland, Waitrose Low and No Buyer, commented: “Our Low and No category is experiencing a significant surge this summer, with sales up 32% this year. The ‘sober curious’ movement is growing, showing a trend towards well-being-focused drinking that doesn’t compromise on flavour or social connection.
“This shift is undoubtedly driven by the increasing availability of premium non-alcoholic beverages that offer the same complexity and enjoyment as their alcoholic counterparts. Our new, exclusive Pentire Paloma Can is a perfect example, providing a sophisticated and satisfying alternative.”
