As part of its £1bn expansion programme, Waitrose has opened a new convenience store in Wandsworth, London, supporting plans to develop its estate in the capital.
The new 2,500 sq. ft. Little Waitrose shop is situated in the New Acres development near Wandsworth Town station, bringing its store count in London to 62.
The opening follows recent refurbishments by the retailer of its sites in Marylebone and Clerkenwell.
Waitrose stated that it plans to invest millions more in London, which will fund the renewal of convenience outlets in Crouch End and Old Brompton Road, as well as upgrade its supermarket in Coulsdon before the end of the year. Further transformations are scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
Tina Mitchell, Waitrose Interim Managing Director, said: “From our roots in Acton, where we opened our very first shop, to Streatham, which saw our first supermarket, and now our newest convenience shop in Wandsworth, London has always been home to Waitrose and central to our success.
“Today, as we open our 62nd store in the capital, we’re committing to investing millions to expand and refresh our portfolio. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, and by continually listening to what our customers want and need, we are well-positioned for future growth in London and across the UK.”
Last week, Waitrose continued its investment in the Bristol area with the opening of a new convenience store in The Arches. The retailer is also developing its first distribution centre in the region, which will serve around 50 current Waitrose sites upon its opening, expected towards the end of 2026.
In 2027, Waitrose’s first new full-line supermarket for seven years will open at Brabazon, a new town on the northern edge of Bristol.
NAM Implications:
- Waitrose patently taking London seriously, very seriously…
- If this initiative works…
- …M&S is retaliation inevitable.
- And appropriate levels of reaction by rivals.
- (including Amazon…)
