Woolworths Australia Expands Retail Media Presence With A$150m Deal

The Woolworths Group has announced a deal to acquire Shopper Media Group, a local retail digital media company, for A$150m in cash. Australia’s largest grocery retailer said the move was an important part of the evolution of the group, noting that retail media is developing rapidly

SMG is a digital and OOH media company, offering targeted shopper advertising through a national network of more than 2,000 screens in over 400 shopping centres.The company will be fully acquired by Cartology, Woolworths’ retail media business.

Brad Banducci, CEO of Woolworths Group, noted: “We’re excited about the opportunity to bring together the complementary capabilities of our retail media business, Cartology, with Shopper’s expertise in out of home media”.

Mike Tyquin, Managing Director of Cartology, added that the deal will accelerate its goal of becoming the trusted media partner of choice for brands and retailers. He noted that the move will allow Cartology to offer clients more opportunities to reach their customers via seamless and targeted advertising solutions.
