Walmart Acquires Tech Firm To Optimise Product Assortment

Walmart has announced the acquisition of Volt Systems, a US technology company that focuses on giving suppliers greater visibility into merchandising resources.

The world’s largest retailer noted that Volt’s application delivers current store-level data, actionable analytics, and shelf intelligence for suppliers to plan, forecast, and optimise product assortment. As a result, customers receive a more seamless omni-shopping experience, with reduced friction due to out-of-stocks.

The company said: “The deal affirms Walmart’s continued investment in technology and innovation that enables us to better anticipate customer demand. We are acquiring Volt Systems outright, including the company, talent, technology, and customer agreements.”

Walmart has been undergoing some other changes lately, cutting around 200 corporate jobs as it plans to refocus its business on new growth areas.

The company slashed its profit forecast last month due to the soaring cost of food and fuel hitting customer spending and weakening demand in general merchandise categories.
