Ahold Delhaize Names New CEO For Europe

Netherlands-based grocery giant Ahold Delhaize has announced that Claude Sarrailh will become the next CEO of its Europe & Indonesia division from 1 October, subject to shareholder approval.

Sarrailh will join the company from Metro AG, where he has been Chief Customer and Merchandise Officer and a member of the wholesaler’s management board since 2022. He joined Metro in 2006, after a decade with Carrefour, and held several customer, procurement and executive roles in a number of European countries. In addition, he spent three years in China as CEO of Metro China.

Commenting on Sarrailh’s appointment, Peter Agnefjäll, Chair of the Supervisory Board, said: “He brings a broad range of experience in emerging and developed markets as well as group functions including retail, digital, wholesale and food service. He is passionate about building commercial and strategic capabilities, developing people, and creating inclusive and results-focused cultures. Claude will be a great addition to Ahold Delhaize’s Executive Committee and the company overall.”

Claude added: “I have long admired Ahold Delhaize as a company, and I’m delighted to join a team that is dedicated to delivering high-quality products and services to millions of customers across Europe and Indonesia.

Claude will replace Wouter Kolk, who announced last month that he would be stepping down to pursue new opportunities.
