Carrefour has reached an agreement with 50 large manufacturers to commit to its Food Transition strategy.
Signatories of Food Transition agreement promise to offer consumers healthy food choices with easy access to clear and reliable product information, and guaranteeing a food system based on the reduction of additives, salts and sugars, while being climate and environmentally friendly.
The agreement also seeks to limit the impact on the environment of packaging and to accelerate the transition to a socially responsible agricultural model by securing biodiversity.
Carrefour informs its customers of all improvements made by each manufacturer to their products.
The Food Transition agreement is part of the company’s global strategy and is being developed in a number of countries where Carrefour is present, including France, Italy, and Belgium.
In Spain, a recent meeting was held in Madrid and was attended by Alexandre de Palmas, General Manager of the group’s local operations, and Jorge Ybarra Loring, Merchandise Manager, together with several commercial managers from leading FMCG brands.
De Palmas commented: “Today, through this agreement, we are entering into a unique, pioneering agreement in Spanish distribution to lead the Food Transition for our customers”.
Loring added: “The commitment signed today reflects our ability to collaborate with manufacturers to offer our customers healthy and environmentally friendly products.”
NAM Implications:
- A strong message for Carrefour customers…
- …and a pointer for other retailers.
- (raising a query re those suppliers that don’t join?)
