Carrefour, one of Europe’s largest grocery retailers, has agreed to extend Chief Executive Alexandre Bompard’s term for another three years through to its AGM in 2026.
He will continue working on executing Carrefour’s 2026 strategic plan to boost cash flow and push further into the digital channel.
Recent figures show Carrefour prospered last year as its turnaround strategy and food inflation boosted figures.
Commenting on Bompard’s continuation as CEO, Stéphane Israël, an Independent Lead Director, said: “The Board of Directors examined the group’s major challenges for the coming years with regard to the ‘Carrefour 2026’ strategic plan. In order to successfully meet the challenges of this plan, guarantee the sustainability of the group’s performance and commitments, as well as the quality of its governance, the Board of Directors wanted Mr. Alexandre Bompard’s mandate to be aligned with 2026.”
Bompard added: “ I am honoured by the confidence placed in me by the Board of Directors. They can count on my determination to pursue our ambition for economic and financial performance as well as our CSR commitments. My resolve will be unwavering to achieve all the objectives set by the Carrefour 2026 plan, alongside the 500,000 people working for the brand and with a governance that I want to be demanding.”
NAM Implications:
- In unprecedented times, continuity helps.
- And a focus on boosting cash flow and pushing further into the digital channel…
- …should provide useful pointers for suppliers…
- …in being seen to align proposed initiatives appropriately.
