Aldi is cutting the price of its toilet roll as it passes on recent cost savings to its customers.
Aldi’s Saxon Softer Luxury Toilet Tissue (9 pack) is now £3.25, down from £3.49.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “Customers know that, on a typical basket of everyday items, we are the lowest-priced supermarket in the UK and our promise to them is that we always will be. It’s why we’ve been named cheapest supermarket by Which? 12 months in a row. We know that’s more important to our customers than ever, which is why we’re passing savings on to our customers anywhere we can.”
NAM Implications:
- Given the low manufacturing margins on paper tissue…
- …trade pricing directly reflects raw material cost increases…
- …and any reduction in raw material cost can be reflected in shelf prices.
- All depends on the retailer’s margin i.e. whether the retailer continues with their normal tissue margin or takes a reduced margin.
- In this case, the shelf price reduction is 7%.
- Modest, but an effective endorsement of Aldi’s low-price policy…
