Aldi Makes ‘Positive Change’ To Fresh Chicken Range

Aldi is making a change to its fresh chicken range as part of its commitment to animal welfare.

Aldi-fresh-chickenFrom 30th October, new packaging will highlight the higher welfare for all fresh chickens sold by the discounter. This includes new stocking density requirements (20% more space than the industry standard) for its fresh chicken, all of which is sourced from British farms.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Animal welfare is of paramount importance to us, and we’ve been working hard with our suppliers to reduce stocking density to help us improve the welfare conditions for chickens.

“We’re already one of the UK’s largest providers of chicken and we’re proud that from next week, we can offer our customers access to higher welfare chicken at our unbeatable Aldi value.”

The launch follows Aldi’s recent announcement that it hit its commitment to sell 100% cage-free eggs more than a year ahead of schedule.
