Aldi has partnered with two British suppliers to introduce new beers that help tackle food waste.
Following a tie-up in 2021, the retailer has partnered with Freedom Brewery again to produce the Misfits Summer Fruits beer (£1.99, 440ml), which is brewed using surplus raspberries and other ‘wonky’ fruit from Aldi’s fruit supplier, Chambers.
Meanwhile, Toast Brewing is launching its first product with the discounter, Another Round Session IPA (£1.99, 440ml), which is made with Aldi’s own-brand Tiger bread.
By rescuing the surplus or wonky ingredients, the products will prevent an estimated 4,000 loaves of bread and almost a tonne of fruit from ending up as food waste annually.
Both are available in Aldi’s UK stores from this week.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve sustainability across our business, and our partnerships with Toast Brewing and Freedom Brewery will help reduce food waste, support British suppliers and offer customers high-quality products.
“These beers are a perfect example of how we can work together to make a positive impact on the environment while still delivering great value and taste.”
