Aldi’s Christmas Range Comes Out Top In Good Housekeeping Taste Test

Aldi was named the ‘Best Overall Grocer’ at the Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) Christmas Taste Test 2024.

The annual taste test, which examines 730 products from over 97 brands, also crowned the discounter’s Specially Selected Mince Pies, Specially Selected Roly Poly Whole Turkey, and Veuve Monsigny Premier Cru Champagne as best-in-class in their categories.

Meanwhile, Aldi’s Specially Selected Orange & Maple Pudding was named ‘Best Flavoured Christmas Pudding’, and its Specially Selected Ultimate 5-Year Vintage Cheddar Bake took the top spot in the Vegetarian Starter category.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas has come early with the Good Housekeeping Institute awards. From starters to desserts – and even the bubbly – we’ve got every course covered with awards, and we are delighted to be named Best Overall Grocer. Shoppers can count on Aldi to make Christmas amazing without breaking the bank.”

NAM Implications:
  • Best keep in mind that this was that ‘downmarket’ discounter that had the ‘cheek’ to enter the sophisticated UK retail market 34 years ago!
  • And somehow managed to grab a 9.8% share of the market.
