Goodfella’s is launching a new range of stonebaked pizzas, which are just under 600 calories each, tapping into the growing demand for this type of product.
The launch, in two of Goodfellas’ bestselling flavours (Margherita and Pepperoni), is an innovation to the pizza category where Goodfella’s ‘standard’ Thin Cheese pizzas, and similar pizzas in the category, come in at around 840 calories per pizza. The HFSS-compliant additions to the range contain a newly formulated base that is light and crispy, and feature two new ingredients – a new mozzarella and a new pepperoni.
Following the recent HFSS regulations, retailers, as well as health-conscious shoppers, are said to be looking for more choice when it comes to meal options, with Goodfella’s new pizzas tapping into this demand. The brand has seen strong growth (+32.8%) recently within the stonebaked thin category, performing ahead of the market (+26.1%), and the new NPD is aimed at sustaining this performance.
Sam Dolan, Marketing Manager at Goodfella’s said: “Our research shows that shoppers are looking for more options when it comes to pizzas – but one thing they will not give up is great taste and overall enjoyment. Our new Light & Crispy base pizzas are an exciting step forward for the pizza category and will bolster our presence within the thin sector through true innovation.”
“Goodfella’s already has a strong track record with creating non-HFSS pizzas, with 88% of our on-shelf pizza range already being HFSS compliant. With our thin pizza range outperforming the segment, we’re aiming to continue driving category growth by going one step further and delivering a product that has the same Goodfella’s taste but is under 600 calories”.
The Goodfella’s Light & Crispy Base Pizzas have gone on sale in Sainsbury’s today.
