Homethings Launches Refillable Washing Up Liquid In Waitrose

Sustainable cleaning brand Homethings has launched a new powder-to-gel refillable washing up liquid product.

Homethings-washing-up-liquidRolling out exclusively in Waitrose, the product is claimed to be the first of its kind, packaged in a paper recyclable refill sachet so that consumers can refill their bottles by mixing the powder with tap water at home.

The brand noted that most washing up liquids have a water content of over 90%, which means just 10% of the solution contains active ingredients that actually do the cleaning. Water-based products are heavier and bulkier to transport, increasing greenhouse gas emissions, and are usually packed in single-use plastic.

Composed of naturally derived ingredients with a rhubarb fragrance, one 25g refill sachet makes 350ml of Homethings’ washing up liquid. A new and improved refillable ‘bottle for life’ also supports the brand’s mission to reduce single-use plastic waste.

The product is made in the UK and is available as both a starter kit and as individual refill sachets, which will be sold exclusively in-store at Waitrose (RRP £3). It will also be available to purchase online.

Tim Keaveney, co-founder of Homethings, commented: “After over three years of hard work alongside Innovate UK, we are over the moon to be able to launch this groundbreaking product in time for Spring this year, with an amazing Wild Rhubarb fragrance. The reaction from our customers online has blown us away. It’s completely bonkers that this category is still full of single-use plastic and heavy water-based products, and we’re determined to change that.

“This is the kind of innovation that eco-conscious shoppers have been crying out for, and we’re delighted to be giving them better options in the cleaning aisle with great partners like Waitrose who really care about the refill movement”.

Washupthings is the seventh product to be introduced to the Homethings range, which includes other eco-friendly everyday household cleaning products, including refillable cleaning spray tablets, floor pods, compostable sponges, and laundry sheets.
