Some Grub, a British pet care brand producing natural pet food made from bugs and vegetables, has launched with a mission to “kick-start Britain’s insect food revolution”.
The brand has been created to meet growing consumer demand for pet care products that support both the health of pets and the environmental health of the planet. By harnessing the wellbeing benefits of bugs, Some Grub offers pet owners a more ethical, more sustainable and healthier way to feed their animals.
Some Grub was founded by best friends and Ollie Harkus and Ben Chapman, who met at university in Manchester. They said: “Because of their health and environmental benefits, we believe that insects will eventually be the number one protein in pet food and more popular than beef, chicken, pork and fish. We launched Some Grub to truly begin this transition and kick-start Britain’s insect food revolution.
“We created Some Grub with a mission to make millions of pets happier and healthier, while cutting the huge impact that feeding them is having on the planet. We were shocked that 20% of the world’s meat and fish is fed to pets and concerned by the growing rate of allergy and stomach issues experienced by animals eating traditional pet food. There are limits to a purely plant-based diet, so we wanted to make protein-packed products for pets that are both healthy and limit the impact on the environment.”
The brand is launching with a range of three dog treats, each boosting wellbeing in their own way: Breath Freshening, Calming, and Gut Boosting. Each product in the range has an RRP of £3.99 and will initially be sold on Some Grub’s website and at independents before rolling out to nationwide retailers.
Some Grub uses mealworms in its products, which have more protein than beef, more iron than spinach, are packed with Omega 3s. Because they’re more digestible than meat and plant proteins and full of natural prebiotics, they are claimed to be good for gut health.
