UK-Developed Sunscreen Launches In Sainsbury’s

Altruist, a sun and skincare brand developed by British dermatologist Dr Andrew Birnie, has secured a listing in 261 Sainsbury’s stores.

Altruit-suncreamThe supermarket’s larger stores will stock four SKUs, including Altruist’s best-selling 100ml SPF 50 cream (£5.25), 200ml SPF 30 cream (£5.75), 50ml SPF 50 Face Fluid (£10.75) and 250ml Family Sunspray (£12.25).

The Sainsbury’s launch is the next step in Altruist’s mission to provide “affordable, accessible sun protection”, as a direct response to the rise in skin cancer in the UK and around the world.

Dr Birnie commented: “I see and treat skin cancer patients every day, and the Altruist range was developed to help combat the increased incidence of skin cancer. I wanted to develop a low-cost, high-quality, range of products that removed the barriers to using SPF sun protection. We know that people use too little sunscreen because it is expensive, so we keep our prices as low as possible. Since launch we have become the UK’s biggest online sunscreen brand, and this news will help even more people access our products and protect themselves from sun damage.”

Amanda Steatham, Director of Health and Beauty at Sainsbury’s, added: “We are delighted to welcome Altruist into our Sainsbury’s Beauty aisles and into our ever-expanding beauty offering. Our customers are increasingly keen to experiment with new products and try the latest innovations to come to market – all while shopping for their weekly food shop.”
