Co-op Extending Deliveroo Service To 1,400 Stores

Co-op and Deliveroo have announced that they have extended their partnership for a further three years, with plans for the rapid grocery delivery service to be available from up to 1,400 of the convenience retailer’s stores by the end of the year.

Co-op and Deliveroo first joined forces in 2017, and following the contract renewal, they plan to have 110 additional Co-op stores available on the Deliveroo platform this year.

Deliveroo customers can choose from around 2,300 everyday items from the Co-op range.

Chris Conway, E-Commerce Director at the Co-op, said: “We are delighted to be able to expand our partnership with Deliveroo – as a convenience retailer, the ability to come into stores will always be important to customers, but we also know that shoppers want flexible and convenient options online, and so we are focused on providing what our customers want and need, however and wherever they choose to shop with us.”

Carlo Mocci, Chief Business Officer UK&I at Deliveroo, added: “Co-op is one of Deliveroo’s largest on-demand grocery partnerships and it continues to be a huge success.”

Meanwhile, following a trial, Deliveroo Signature is also being rolled out across hundreds of Co-op stores. It makes Deliveroo’s network of riders available to deliver orders placed directly with Co-op through its own online shop.

NAM Implications:
  • A wise move by both parties in terms of optimising existing assets.
  • But the real benefit will come from their readiness and additional coverage…
  • …during the inevitable re-imposition of Lockdown this Winter.
  • (Those in any doubt might benefit from conducting what-ifs on that basis…)
