Co-op has revealed that it plans to open 75 new convenience stores during 2025.
The new outlets will include up to 25 company-operated sites and 50 franchise stores. In addition, around 80 existing stores will undergo major refurbishments.
Last year, Co-op focused on growing its franchise estate. It opened stores on more university campuses, and its first in a hospital. A partnership with EG On The Move also saw it expand its presence in the forecourt sector, whilst an opening at HMS Collingwood, the Royal Navy’s largest training base, marked its first store on the UK’s defence estate.
Co-op has also been working to grow its share of the quick commerce market to over 30% by developing both its own delivery platform and with its partners, such as Just Eat, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo.
“We want everyone to have easy and convenient access to a Co-op store, wherever they live, and this year, we are completely focused on achieving that through an ambitious and exciting new store strategy,” said Matt Hood, Co-op’s Managing Director.
