Co-op Trebles Size Of Franchise Estate

Following the opening of 16 stores already this year, and currently operating more than 30 stores across the country, the Co-op Franchise operation has trebled its estate in 2021.

A further 10 franchise stores are set to open by the end of the year taking the total to 40.

Most recent openings include stores at Keele University and the University of Aberdeen, which underwent a major revamp to better serve students.

Co-op also recently launched its first dedicated 24-hour self-serve food-to-go format with its new ‘Micro Market’ proposition located at the head office of British cleaning appliances manufacturer Numatic. Working in partnership with vending provider, Graddon Vending, the franchised stores can be installed in hospitals, offices, schools, gyms and train stations.

Martin Rogers, head of new channels at Co-op said: “We have the most diverse store portfolio of any retailer and currently operate in university campuses, motorway services, petrol stations, community convenience stores and supermarkets, and spread from London to Leeds, Stirling to Somerset and Kent to Cornwall.

“The flexibility of the model is evidence that we can successfully service such a diverse group and we’re looking for independent retailers to join our unique franchise proposition and one of the most iconic brands.”
