McColl’s Retail has announced the appointment of Karen Bird to its Board as Chief Operating Officer with immediate effect.
She joined the convenience retailer in 2016 as Colleague Director, and was subsequently promoted to Colleague and Operations Director in January 2020. Prior to joining McColl’s, Bird spent over 20 years with Tesco in both HR and Operational roles.
Jonathan Miller, Chief Executive of McColl’s, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Karen to the Board. Her appointment recognises the valuable contribution she has made, and continues to make, to the business. Her extensive experience in convenience and food retail, and her detailed understanding of the Company, will bring much knowledge and value to the Board.”
Last month, McColl’s raised around £30m through a share placing to support the rollout of Morrisons Daily stores. The move came as the convenience retailer warned of profit headwinds due to product availability issues.
