One Stop Continues Range Overhaul

Tesco’s One Stop convenience subsidiary has overhauled its biscuits, cereals, and beverages categories.

The move follows recent range resets in alcohol, confectionery, chilled, and frozen food, and comes after last week’s announcement that the 1,000+ strong chain is phasing out its current own-label products and replacing them with its parent’s ‘Core Own Brand’ range.

The latest changes will see the introduction of healthier breakfast and snack products to meet the needs of health-conscious consumers. New lines include Oatly Oat Drinks, Go Ahead Fruit Slices, Quaker Apple & Blueberry Porridge Pot, and Belvita Soft Bakes Choc Chips.

One Stop is also rolling out new, trend-setting lines for younger consumers, such as Bubbleology Passion Fruit Bubble Tea and Fuel10k Chocolate Breakfast Drink.

One Stop’s cereal fixture has also had a revamp, bringing in Weetabix Chocolate, Kellogg’s Fruit n Fibre, Nestle Cheerios Honey, and Kellogg’s Coco Pops Chocos.

“To support the customer mission, we reviewed how we merchandised our cereals. Customers can find what they’re looking for with much more ease, and more on-the-go breakfast items,” said Henry Maulik, Head of Product at One Stop.

Meanwhile, One Stop has brought in a variety of instant hot drinks that offer customers “café-like beverages from the comfort of their own home”. New lines include Nescafe Original 3 in 1 sachets, Nescafe Quality Street Green Triangle Mocha sachets, and Cadbury Instant Hot Chocolate.

NAM Implications:
  • Given that retail is a ‘try it and see’ environment…
  • (and the envy of brand suppliers in terms of ease of market testing)
  • …then these moves should not come as a surprise.
  • (a possibility loss of local tailoring to customer need in reverting to core own label)
  • Otherwise just normal shopkeeping…
