The Central England Co-op saw it sales increase by 6.4% to £486.4m over the six months to 8 August, largely as a result of strong sales in its core food business.
The robust trading helped drive up trading profit by 69.3% to £19.3m.
The society opened two new food stores and refurbished three shops in the period. It is planning to open more stores in its second half and pilot new technology such as self-scan checkouts and scan & go.

The group operates over 400 food, funeral and floral sites across 16 counties.
