SPAR’s Partner In Northern Ireland Trialling Self-Checkout App

The Henderson Group, the holder of the SPAR licence in Northern Ireland, has announced plans to trial the Ubamarket ‘scan, pay and go’ app with its EDGEPoS system, which is installed in SPAR and EUROSPAR supermarkets in the region.

The app, which will initially be tested in a small number of stores, will allow customers to create shopping lists on their phones, guide them around the store to their items, scan goods as they shop and then pay by using their phone. Ubamarket’s app will also work alongside Henderson Technology’s new self-checkout systems which are appearing in a growing number of stores in Northern Ireland.

Will Broome, chief executive of Ubamarket, said the time is right for retailers to embrace technology to bridge the gap between instore and online shopping.

“Ubamarket provides retailers and consumers with a nimble scan-and-go system, allowing them to enjoy the convenient service offered on online platforms, in bricks and mortar stores,” he said.

Darren Nickels of Hendersons added: “We know from the stores we own and operate in the group, that customer needs and expectations are changing, and we are ensuring our solutions meet those needs both now and into the future.
