Aldi Highlights Support For Scottish Farmers And Producers

New research has revealed Aldi was the biggest stockist of Scottish produce in 2024.

The announcement comes from the National Farmers Union Scotland (NFUS) 2024 summary report, released today, which included its largest-ever survey of Scottish supermarket shelves.

The report summarises results from three research phases, conducted on behalf of farmers and crofters, that took place over the course of last year. Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Marks & Spencer, Lidl and Aldi were all visited by an independent research firm to examine the origin of own-brand beef, lamb, pork, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, dairy and soft fruit products.

Over the last year, the results show that Aldi has continuously had the largest percentage of Scottish produce overall at an average of 40%. The discounter consistently stocked 100% Scottish eggs and was also a strong supporter of Scottish potatoes (average 89.7%) and chicken (average 86.6%).

“Scotland’s larder is world-renowned, and we take great pride in championing Scottish sourcing at Aldi,” commented Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director at Aldi Scotland.

“We opened our dedicated Scottish Buying Department over 30 years ago and have been steadfast in our goal to support local farmers and producers.

“We’re very proud to have partnerships with suppliers all over the country, and with some of the best producers in Scotland, which allow us to bring the best quality and freshest products to our Aldi stores at amazing prices.

“Being recognised as the top supermarket overall in 2024 is testament to our dedication to this vision, and our ongoing commitment to ensuring our customers have access to top-quality, locally sourced goods.”
