Aldi Revamping Over 20 Stores By The End Of The Year

Aldi has revealed that more than 20 of its stores will undergo improvements before the end of the year as part of the latest phase of its investment in “enhancing the shopping experience for customers”.

Aldi-StoreBetween now and December, two Aldi stores – Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Ebbw Vale in Wales – will undergo major extensions. A further 21 stores will have other upgrades, including refreshed fixtures, enhanced layouts and improved sustainability features.

The upgrades form part of the discounter’s ongoing store enhancement rollout, building on its original upgrade programme, which has already delivered modernised layouts, more space for fresh and chilled products, and brighter, wider aisles to more than 500 stores across the UK.

“Our investment in our store estate is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the very best shopping experience for our customers,” said Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK.

“By extending and refreshing our existing sites, we’re providing more sustainable and convenient stores, ensuring they continue to meet the needs of the communities they serve for years to come.”

Alongside the upgrades, Aldi is on track to open around 40 new stores in the UK during 2025 as it pushes towards its long-term target of 1,500 sites.

NAM Implications:
  • Given they are already doing well via their current estate…
  • …any upgrading that enhances the shopper experience is likely to add incremental sales.
  • Additional outlets even more so…
  • And with Aldi and Lidl likely to form part of the top four mults (by replacing Asda and Morrisons)…
  • …perhaps they are deserving of more of our attention as suppliers?
