Aldi is continuing its move into the online channel with the launch of its first click & collect service in the UK.
The discounter is currently running a trial of the service for its staff from a store in the Midlands and plans to extend this to customers in the coming weeks.
During the current pilot, Aldi staff can choose from a full range of grocery items online, then drive to their local store where they can have their shopping brought to their cars contact-free by store assistants.
The retailer stated that if it continues to prove successful, the trial will be extended to the public across more of its 894 UK stores in the near future. The service would see customers offered timeslots to arrive at dedicated click & collect points in store car parks to pick up their shopping.
Amid surging demand for delivery options, Aldi made its first move into the online grocery channel back in April with a food parcel service to help vulnerable and self-isolating customers.
It has since started trialling a rapid delivery service across stores in the East Midlands, London, Cambridge and Greater Manchester in partnership with Deliveroo.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer, Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “We know that more and more people want to access the high-quality, affordable food they know they can get at Aldi.
“This is yet another way we are innovating to make sure we best serve our existing customers and make Aldi’s great products and unbeatable prices available to even more people.”
NAM Implications:
- Best assume success and fast roll-out.
- And then reconsider your Aldi-strategy options…
