Aldi Store In Manchester To Retain ‘Aldeh’ Oasis Tribute Branding

Giles Hurley, the Chief Executive of Aldi UK, has confirmed that the discounter will keep its ‘Aldeh’ sign above one of its stores in Manchester in response to public demand.

Aldi renamed its Prestwich store at the end of June in honour of the Oasis reunion tour concerts in the city’s Heaton Park. The ‘Aldeh’ sign was originally intended as a temporary fixture for the band’s five-day residency, but quickly gained popularity on social media. A local resident subsequently started a petition, calling for the sign to stay.

The move even caught the attention of Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher, who reposted a fan’s picture of the store on his Instagram feed.

Aldi later teased fans on Facebook about making the sign permanent: “Boss said we also need 10,000 likes and a comment from one of the Gallaghers (he didn’t say they had to be in the band)”.

In a post on LinkedIn, Hurley confirmed the news, writing: “The response has been supersonic, with Oasis fans and proud Mancunians visiting the store to see it for themselves.

“Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign. So naturally, we took to social media to see what our shoppers thought, turns out… people are mad for it and want the sign to stay.

“I’m pleased to announce that we’ll be keeping the Aldeh sign as a tribute to Manchester!”

NAM Implications:
  • Nice local touch.
  • A genuine example of ‘we listened’.
  • And it worked…
  • (Good site for Aldeh selfies, BTW…)
