Aldi has announced that it will offer quicker payments for small produce farmers and suppliers as part of its commitment to support British businesses.
The move follows a period of dry weather across the UK that has placed additional strain on growers, with the discounter saying the payment initiative aims to help smaller suppliers manage cash flow challenges.
All fresh produce suppliers who have a turnover of under £5m are being offered the quicker payment terms for the remainder of 2025. The changes take effect immediately, with eligible suppliers being invited to apply for the scheme.
“We know smaller growers are under real pressure – from a dry spring to rising input costs – and we want to do what we can to help,” said Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK.
“These shorter payment terms are a small, practical step to give them quicker access to cash and a bit more flexibility as the season progresses.”
Aldi recently pledged to continue supporting British farming and maintain the sector’s current high food safety and animal welfare standards, even if current regulations are relaxed under future international trade deals.
