Industry Veteran Joining Board At B&M

Renowned industry executive Euan Sutherland is set to join the Board of the company behind discount retailer B&M.

Subject to shareholder approval, he will become a Non-Executive Director of B&M European Value Retail from 20th January 2025.

Sutherland has over 30 years of experience in the consumer goods and retail sectors, having held senior roles at Dixons, Matalan, and Kingfisher and board positions at the Co-operative Group, Superdry, and Britvic. He is currently the Chief Executive of soft drinks supplier A.G. Barr.

Tiffany Hall, Chair of B&M’s Board, commented: “He brings exceptional retail and consumer goods experience, leading major consumer-facing businesses through periods of significant growth, both in the UK and Internationally.”

Sutherland added: “I am excited to join the Board of B&M to support its goal of becoming Europe’s leading variety discount retailer. I look forward to working with the Board on further developing the unique business model, focus on retail excellence and agility across the UK and French markets.”

Last month, B&M reported a fall in first-half like-for-like sales due to tough comparatives and poor weather. However, the retailer stressed that it was “well positioned” for the key Christmas quarter, having built up stock early to remove the risk of supply chain disruption.

NAM Implications:
  • A little extra muscle for B&M
  • With a broad span of retail expertise.
  • Time for suppliers to reassess B&M?
