Lidl GB is set to open nine new or enlarged stores over the next month as it seeks to maintain its momentum as the fastest-growing bricks & mortar supermarket in the UK.
New stores will be opening in Canning Town, Preston, Walsall and Wombourne, while locations including Blantyre, Cwmbran, Oldbrook, Wells and West Ealing will see bigger and improved stores re-opening following “significant” investment.
The latest wave of new stores follows its first of 2025 in Northampton, building on the momentum of ten openings in the run-up to Christmas as part of the discounter’s ongoing expansion drive.
Richard Taylor, Chief Development Officer at Lidl GB, said: “As we begin the new year, we’re maintaining our momentum and opening nine state-of-the-art stores, delivering bigger and better shopping experiences to new communities and those we’ve proudly served for an average of 26 years.
“After a record-breaking Christmas, where millions of households turned to Lidl, these openings reflect the growing demand for our unbeatable value and quality.
“This is just the start – we’ve got more openings in the pipeline this year alone and can’t wait to welcome even more customers, both loyal and new, through our doors in the weeks ahead.”
Recent Kantar data showed that sales at Lidl rose 7.4% over the 12 weeks to 26 January, significantly outperforming its rivals.
In November, Lidl GB posted strong annual results and stated that it plans to accelerate its expansion plans.
NAM Implications:
- Lidl not behaving like a retailer close to saturation…
- Yet another reason to find ways of working with them?
