Lidl Stores Start Hosting Parcel Lockers

Lidl is hoping to attract more shoppers to its stores after agreeing on a deal with parcel locker provider InPost.

The delivery and collection lockers have initially been rolled out to 24 Lidl stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester. The lockers can be chosen as a delivery location for online orders from a range of retailers or used to post returns.

InPost has similar arrangements with Morrisons and petrol forecourts including BP and Esso.

Initial customer feedback on the lockers in Lidl stores was said to have been positive with 44% users also making a purchase at the discounter while collecting a parcel. Of those polled, 85% said using the InPost locker was the reason for their visit to Lidl, meaning that the pilot has also driven greater footfall to the stores.

“With current lockdown guidance limiting how and when people can leave the house, it is vital that they are able to maximise each trip and not make unnecessary additional journeys,” said InPost’s Chief Executive Jason Tavaria

“Installing delivery lockers at one of the UK’s best-loved supermarkets allows them to do this and also provides a useful, contact-free outbound resource at a time when many Post Offices are closed.

“The positive feedback we’ve already had from customers shows they’re open to change, with trip-chaining becoming more common and demonstrating the demand for greater integration between how people work, shop and play.”

NAM Implications:
  • A little extra cost-covering.
  • Some extra footfall.
  • Are you there yet?
