Poundland has unveiled a major revamp of its pricing policy, a move it said would allow it to offer a wider set of ranges than it currently stocks.
The changes include permanent price points below £1, as well as trials of £1.50, £3 and £4 price points. This builds on the introduction of £2 and £5 price points in 2017. Poundland has previously offered some deals for less than £1, but said the introduction of permanent sub-£1 offers is part of its transformation from a “single price retailer” to a “simple price retailer”.
The move is currently live at its stores across the West Midlands, and includes items such as Napolena Passata 500g and Princes Sardine and Tomato Paste 75g for 50p, and Colgate Toothpaste 100ml for 75p. Poundland is also offering Aussie Shampoo for £3, four-pack tins of John West tuna for £3, and Nivea Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream 50ml for £4.
Poundland added that it will actively solicit customer feedback, while noting that around 75% of its products will still remain at the core price of £1.
Barry Williams, MD of Poundland, said: “While three quarters of the products we offer will still be £1, it’s important we look to broaden our ranges elsewhere, whether above or below £1. These extended price points mean we can meet an even greater range of customers’ needs, while offering the same outstanding Poundland value.”
The chain has not said if it plans to drop its iconic ‘Everything’s £1’ slogan as part of the revamp.
