Amazon has responded to the pandemic-led boom in online shopping by announcing that it will create more than 10,000 new permanent jobs in the UK during 2021, taking its total workforce in the country to more than 55,000.
The new jobs will include roles at its corporate offices, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and operations network.
A new fulfilment centre in Hinckley, East Midlands will create 700 new jobs when it opens this summer, whilst centres in Dartford, Gateshead and Swindon will each create more than 1,300 permanent jobs when they open later this year.
“We’re creating thousands of good jobs across the UK from a diverse range of roles with excellent pay and benefits,” said Amazon’s UK Country Manager John Boumphrey.
Last month, Amazon posted record profits and a second straight quarter of $100bn-plus sales as it continued to benefit from home-bound consumers doing more shopping online and using its other products such as video streaming and smart tech devices.
The online giant also announced today that it was hiring 75,000 workers across the US and Canada to meet growing demand.
NAM Implications:
- And this just the UK, folks!
- Despite the challenges, are you really optimising the Amazon opportunity?
