Amazon Opens First Fulfilment Centre In Ireland

Amazon has officially opened its first fulfilment centre in the Republic of Ireland to meet rising demand and avoid shipping delays that resulted from Brexit.

The 630,000 sq. ft. centre in Baldonnell Business Park in Dublin will house millions of items that will be picked, packed and shipped to customers around Ireland and Europe.

Previously, many of Amazon’s orders for Irish customers had been fulfilled from its fulfilment centres in the UK. However, Brexit raised concerns around shipping delays and extra charges at the border. With its own Irish supply chain, Amazon plans to provide faster delivery for customers across the country, including one-day delivery on thousands of items.

A spokesperson for Amazon said: “We are delighted to have opened the doors of our first fulfilment centre in Dublin this week.

“We are focusing on welcoming our new team and preparing the site in readiness to start delivering to our customers across Ireland.”

The site is set to employ around 500 people and recruitment is currently underway.

NAM Implications:
  • Think Amazon blanket coverage everywhere…
  • …with an offering of 500 million SKUs, and rising…
  • …vs the rest.
