Amazon Records Its Fastest-Ever Delivery Speeds For Prime Members

Amazon has revealed that it achieved its fastest delivery speeds for Prime members globally in 2024, with over nine billion items arriving the same or next day around the world.

In the UK, over 1 billion of these items arrived the same or next day, with the same-day option now available in over 80 UK towns and cities.

Popular same-day items over the last year were pharmacy essentials, including magnesium and baby wipes, and beauty products like mascara, hair treatments, and skincare.

Amazon noted that it is also delivering more everyday essentials from categories such as health, beauty, baby, and pet food. Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, WaterWipes baby wipes, and HP ink cartridges were among the most popular items ordered in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Swansea, and Cardiff.

“Our customers always tell us that they value the low prices, wide selection, and fast deliveries that we provide,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon.

“We work hard to innovate and provide faster, more sustainable deliveries, and are proud to announce another record-breaking year for fast delivery, with some big savings for Prime members along the way.”

Commenting on the figures, Martin Heubel, Amazon Strategy Consultant at Consulterce, said: “Amazon means business when it comes to shipping speed. It’s their first line of defence against Asian rivals like Temu and Shein that mostly appeal to shoppers with low prices at slow delivery speeds.

“It’s also a strong signal to retailers looking to adopt Amazon’s multichannel fulfilment services. After all, you won’t find another retailer able to ship nine billion items at these speeds.”

NAM Implications:
  • Making an Amazon purchase easier than reaching out to a shelf…
  • Effectively setting a barrier impossible to match (or beat) for rivals.
