Amazon To Build £500m Fulfilment Centre In East Midlands

Amazon has announced plans to construct a new multimillion-pound facility in Northampton, East Midlands.

The £500m fulfilment centre in the East Midlands town is anticipated to start processing online orders by 2026.

The “next-generation” facility will use Amazon’s robotics technology for product stowing and order picking across three floors. However, the development will also initially generate 1,400 new jobs, rising to 2,000 roles when fully operational.

Neil Travis, Amazon’s regional director, said: “The East Midlands is an important region for Amazon, with more than 6,000 small- and medium-sized enterprise selling partners, and I am delighted to confirm our ongoing commitment with this £500minvestment in a new, state-of-the-art fulfilment centre in Northampton.

“The new site will create more than 2,000 new jobs, taking our total workforce in the East Midlands to more than 10,000 full and part-time roles, and our investment in the region to more than £4bn since 2010.”

NAM Implications:
  • Kinda begs the question re. whether you are really doing enough to optimise Amazon potential.
  • (Just asking…)
