Amazon has launched an on-demand delivery option for its Fresh grocery delivery service, meaning shoppers don’t have to sign up to a monthly subscription.
Members of its Prime scheme in eligible areas can now use its AmazonFresh service by paying £2.99 per delivery, with a minimum order value of £40. The monthly subscription option of unlimited deliveries for £3.99 per month remains available but Amazon hopes the new on-demand option will appeal to more occasional and first-time users of its grocery service.
Amazon has been pushing hard to gain market share in the UK grocery market. AmazonFresh is now available in 302 postcodes across Greater London and the South East, selling products from Whole Foods Market, Booths and Morrisons, as well as local brands.
“We are constantly innovating on behalf of our customers to deliver the things we believe they will always care about – low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery,” said Russell Jones, Country Manager, AmazonFresh UK.
“By offering an on demand option as part of our AmazonFresh service, Prime members have even more flexibility when it comes to doing their weekly shop online.”
NAM Implications:
- Amazon setting the pace in terms of low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery.
- This has to be a pointer for all online operators…
- …and one to watch…
- …as it comes to a category near you…
