Amazon Unveils Plans For Another Fulfilment Centre

Amazon is continuing its expansion in the UK with plans to open another new fulfilment centre in Darlington, County Durham, which will create around 1,000 jobs.

The online giant stated the new investment will help meet customer demand and enable SMBs selling on its platform to scale their businesses.

Darlington will be Amazon’s first fulfilment centre in the North East. The site will be fitted out with “advanced Amazon Robotics technology” which will see robots slide under a tower of shelves where products are stowed, lift it and move it through the centre.

Amazon has created over 29,500 jobs and invested more than £18bn in its UK operations since 2010. It currently has 21 fulfilment centres across the country.

NAM Implications:
  • For those suppliers/retailers that consider themselves competitors to Amazon:
  • ‘Amazon has created over 29,500 jobs and invested more than £18bn in its UK operations since 2010. It currently has 21 fulfilment centres across the country‘
  • (For those that still need convincing: Think your assortment vs Amazon 500m items…)
