Ocado Begins New Year With 1,700 Price Cuts

Ocado Retail has reduced the price of more than 1,700 products as part of its Big Price Drop campaign.

From today, the cuts will roll out across cupboard, fridge, freezer and household items, taking the total number of products reduced in price by the online retailer since June to more than 3,000.

The Big Price Drop sits alongside the Ocado Price Promise, which matches a customer’s shop to Tesco.com on over 10,000 products, including Clubcard prices.

Ocado Retail CEO Hannah Gibson said: “We know many of our customers will be looking for value this January. So, we’ve started the year by adding even more products to our Big Price Drop.

“The combination of our range and unrivalled service paired with 1,700 new lower prices means we’re offering the best experience for our customers.”

Earlier this week, Morrisons announced that it was investing £15m to cut the price of 200 everyday products in a bid to attract cash-strapped customers after the expense of Christmas.

NAM Implications:
  • Given that much of the current retailer price cuts are on own-label products…
  • …the effect will be to increase the size of the brand premium on branded equivalents…
  • …resulting in a decrease in branded sales.
