Snappy Shopper has teamed up with anti-food waste company Gander to become the first delivery app to offer reduced to clear items for home delivery.
The firms have initially launched the scheme with two CJ Lang SPAR stores in Scotland. After trialling the feature for a 12-week period, the aim is for it to be rolled out across all convenience stores using the Snappy Shopper platform in the coming months.
The new feature works by allowing Snappy Shopper customers to purchase reduced to clear items for delivery as part of their normal shop, reducing food waste and offering customers the opportunity to buy a selection of fresh food at reduced prices.
Mike Callachan, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our partnership with Gander to offer reduced to clear items to Snappy Shopper users is something we are incredibly excited about. Not only is this a first-of-its-kind feature, but it enables our retailers to reduce their wastage, meaning they can improve their margins while also supporting their local community as well as having a huge impact on the environment. We are so excited to see the results it has for both our retailers and customers.”
Stacey Williams, Head of Business Development at Gander, added: “We are passionate about finding solutions that reduce food waste while creating value for our customers. It is a huge milestone for retail that reduced to clear food can now be sold on a delivery app, giving consumers the power to make sustainable and cost-saving choices from the comfort of their homes. We are delighted to partner with Snappy Shopper, SPAR Scotland, and Retail Solutions to make this revolutionary retail concept a reality.”
