BrewDog Closing 10 Bars Due To ‘Industry Challenges’

Scottish craft beer giant BrewDog has revealed that it plans to close 10 of its bars across the UK in the coming days.

The sites earmarked for closure are in Aberdeen, Dundee, Leeds, Brighton, Oxford, Sheffield, York, and three in London.

A spokesperson for BrewDog said the “difficult decision” had been taken as a result of “ongoing industry challenges”, including rising costs, increased regulation, and economic pressures.

The spokesperson added: “Despite our best efforts, and the hard work of our teams, it has simply not been possible to make these bars commercially viable.

“This decision is not simply a response to the challenging UK hospitality market, but a proactive decision to redefine the bar division’s focus for long-term and profitable growth.”

The company, known for its craft beers and IPAs, has pubs across the globe, including 71 in the UK.

BrewDog has struggled to make a profit for a few years. However, last month it posted an adjusted EBITDA of £7.5m for the year ended 31 December 2024, up from a loss of £2.5m in 2023. Net revenues were flat at £280m.

James Taylor, Chief Executive of BrewDog, said at the time: “2024 was a transformative year for BrewDog, and I am pleased to report the company has returned to profitability for the first time in several years.

“After a challenging 2023, we streamlined operations and improved our efficiency across our global footprint, which had a tangible impact on our bottom line.

“While our topline revenue growth slowed, we remain at historic highs, demonstrating the continued appeal of our brilliant beers, the power of our brand, and the strong appetite for quality craft beer.”

However, BrewDog did not disclose an official pre-tax profit result, with reports suggesting that this figure remained negative.
