Caffè Nero is hoping to offset the downturn in trade at its high street shops by selling its coffee in supermarkets.
For the first time ever, shoppers will be able to buy the Caffè Nero at-home range of capsules via Sainsbury’s online and in selected stores from March. Sainsbury’s will be the first national retailer to offer the coffee range, which includes Caffè Nero’s signature Classico Original Blend.
Bags of the brand’s whole or ground coffee beans are also now being sold by Amazon. Over the coming months, Caffè Nero plans to add capsules to the Amazon offering.

The retail roll-out comes after Caffè Nero saw a 218% jump in sales of its at-home coffee range via its online store since the second national lockdown in November.
Will Stratton-Morris, CEO Caffè Nero UK, said: “We’ve seen a surge in sales of our Coffee at Home range through our own website, and huge growth in our in-store click & collect service and our at-home delivery service via Uber Eats since they launched last summer.
“It shows both the high demand for our speciality coffee and the evolving nature of how customers want to buy it. We’re delighted to be extending the availability of our popular at-home range even further with the roll-out to Sainsbury’s and Amazon.”
To celebrate the retail launch of its at-home range, and to “support busy parents and homeworkers through the latest lockdown”, Caffè Nero is running a competition to give away 1,000 bags of its whole or ground coffee beans.
NAM Implications:
- Anticipate Caffè Nero offering retail versions off-premise i.e.
- At-home range of capsules, to be added to the Amazon offering…
- …along with bags of the brand’s whole or ground coffee beans…
- …are also now being sold by Amazon.
- i.e. Caffe Nero need to compensate for the Lockdown damage in hospitality…
- …like many others.
