Compass Names New Chairman

Catering giant Compass has named Ian Meakins as its next Chairman. He will succeed Paul Walsh when he steps down at the beginning of December.

Meakins has previously been CEO of Ferguson (formerly Wolseley), Travelex and Alliance Unichem. He was also Senior Independent Director at Centrica and a non-executive Director at O2.  He is currently non-executive Chairman of Rexel SA.

Meakins faces a difficult task ahead helping to rebuild the Compass business which has been hit hard by the pandemic. Some of its biggest catering clients are schools, businesses, and sports venues which have all been closed in recent months.

The group was forced to raise £2bn in capital in May to ride out the crisis following a profit warning.

“I look forward to working with Dominic [CEO] and the executive team to drive forward the group’s strategy and ensuring that it continues to create significant value for all stakeholders,” said Meakins.
