Dixons Carphone Shakes Up Management Team

Dixons Carphone has announced the appointment of former John Lewis Partnership executive Ed Connolly as its Chief Commercial Officer, and an expanded role for its Chief Digital Officer Mark Allsop.

Due to join the business on 4 May, Connolly held a range of roles across the JLP, including the most recent of Director of Partnership Strategy. In his new role, he will be responsible for building on the progress made in Dixons Carphone’s commercial transformation. He will succeed Steve Ager who is stepping down in June after 12 years with the business.

Alex Baldock, Chief Executive of Dixons Carphone, commented: “Ed is a forward-thinking and innovative leader who is focused on building strong, customer-obsessed and highly commercial teams.”

Meanwhile, Allsop has been promoted to the expanded role of Chief Operating Officer, just two months after joining the retailer from Merlin Entertainments.  He takes up his new position on 4 May, replacing Alan Ritchie who will be leaving the business in June.

Allsop’s new role will expand his existing digital portfolio to enable him to lead Dixons Carphone’s omnichannel customer experience. The role will now cover the company’s stores, contact centres and online business.

Baldock added: “I am pleased to be bringing our stores, contact centres and online business together under Mark Allsop’s leadership in his role as chief operating officer. This will enable us to become truly omnichannel and deliver a seamlessly integrated store and digital experience.”

The Dixons Carphone group had a mixed Christmas, with its electricals division returning to growth whilst its mobile business continued to contract sharply.
