Retailers have told Boris Johnson that his government must do more to persuade the public that it is safe to travel to work and shop or risk needless job losses and store closures, as data showed city centres suffering from a lack of office workers.

- Time for us all to stop confusing government with taxpayer…?
- (i.e. any government incentives have to come from taxpayer-pockets, a further disincentive to spend?)
- City centre office buildings will simply not ‘re-fill’, despite government exhortations…
- …now that the home-working has been let out of the bottle.
- At least 30% of City centre buildings need to repurposed as domestic accommodation (at developers’ expense)
- And the resulting consumer traffic may go some way towards restoring local retail (& hospitality/services) source of business.
