John Lewis has launched a rapid delivery pilot in partnership with Uber Eats, enabling consumers to purchase nursery, beauty and gift items.
Operating within an 8km radius of the John Lewis department stores in Leeds and Stratford, users of the Uber Eats app can order from a selection of 150 products that can be delivered in as little as 30 minutes.
Products sold via Uber Eats will be priced the same as in John Lewis stores, online and through the retailer’s app and will uphold the retailer’s ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ price promise.
Stella Winklewska, Category Lead at John Lewis, said: “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour.
“It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”
The pilot aims to enable the companies to understand customer demand, purchasing behaviours, and operational logistics before a wider national rollout. It will run through to early September.
Alex Troughton, head of retail at Uber Eats, EMEA, commented: “We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes.
“By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike.”
Last month, the department store operator’s sister chain Waitrose rolled out offers available to members of its loyalty scheme to the Uber Eats platform.
