Two months after acquiring 70 Homebase stores after the DIY retailer fell into administration, The Range has started reopening the sites under a new superstore format.
One of the revamped stores unveiled in Christchurch today features a ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’ offer alongside the retailer’s usual selection of homeware and furnishings.
The new gardening hub stocks plants, tools and other essential supplies for gardeners. The opening was attended by brand representatives from key suppliers, including Westland, Burts, Calor Gas, and Husqvarna, offering shoppers advice, demonstrations, and samples.
Today also marked the opening of The Range superstores in Pollokshaws, Glasgow and Kings Heath, Birmingham, with more planned throughout 2025.
Alex Simpkin, CEO of CDS Superstores, which owns The Range, Wilko and Homebase brands, said: “We’re thrilled to open our doors in Christchurch, Birmingham and Glasgow today, and introduce our customers to the new The Range superstore experience. The exciting addition of the ‘Garden Centre by Homebase’ to this format continues to represent our ongoing commitment to providing everything from homeware to outdoor living under one roof.
“We’re committed to retaining Homebase’s heritage while introducing the broader scope of products that our customers expect from The Range. The team has worked incredibly hard to get these stores up and running for our existing and new visitors to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming shoppers from across the region to explore all that we have to offer!”
NAM Implications:
- Not a bad ‘second coming’ for two retail brands (Wilko & Homebase) past sell by.
- Time for suppliers to tweak trade strategies in appropriate categories?
