WHSmith continues to build its partnership with Toys R Us with plans to roll out another 37 of the online toy retailer’s concessions in its high street stores.
Having exclusively launched the first Toys R Us shop-in-shop in the UK in 2023, WHSmith has opened further outlets throughout 2024, growing to 39 different locations. In the coming months, this will increase to 76 shop-in-shops, with the opening of three a week between 28 September and Christmas.
Sean Toal, Managing Director WHSmith High Street, said: “Nearly 40 years ago Toys R Us first came to the UK, and we take great pride in being the steward of this much-loved brand in the UK.
“We’ve had queues around the block for many openings in the last year which tells you just how much people are loving seeing Toys R Us back again.
“But our job isn’t done yet, and I’m pleased to be bringing the magic of Toys R Us to even more customers over the coming months, ready for the best time of year – Christmas!”
Toys R Us disappeared from the UK in 2018 after it fell into administration and all of its 100 stores were closed. Toys R Us ANZ Limited then secured a licence agreement to run digital and physical retail commerce for the brand in the UK, having restarted the business in Australia. The new brand owner launched an online store in the UK towards the end of 2022.
