A new distribution centre in Northamptonshire become operational this week to cater for extra demand for LloydsPharmacy’s online service.
The warehouse in Weedon provides an extended product range to customers of LloydsPharmacy.com. Over 10 million people visited the website in the last year with sales more than doubling over the last couple of months due to the coronavirus crisis.
Kyle Rowe, chief digital and marketing officer for McKesson UK (parent company of LloydsPharmacy), said: “We already had plans for expansion, but the coronavirus pandemic has meant that more and more people are shopping online and we expect that trend to continue.
“We’re switching to a new platform which will make shopping online for health and wellbeing items even easier, expanding our range and moving to a new warehouse with more capacity.”
The pharmacy chain highlighted that its best-selling lines in recent weeks have been face masks, hand sanitiser, respiratory devices and home beauty products, reflecting the impact of the outbreak.
Earlier this week, LloydsPharmacy revealed that it had agreed on a partnership with Deliveroo that offers the home delivery of a selected range of medical essentials in as little as 30 minutes.
