Rowlands Snaps Up 30 LloydsPharmacy Branches

Rowlands Pharmacy has acquired 30 LloydsPharmacy branches in Scotland.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, boosts the presence of the UK’s fourth-largest pharmacy chain in Scotland to over 70 directly-owned sites. The PHOENIX group-owned business has more than 500 branches around the UK.

Nigel Swift, Managing Director of Rowlands Pharmacy, said: “This is a significant investment in growing our network north of the border and further reinforces our presence in Scotland, delivering outstanding patient care services, advice and support.”

Earlier this year, LloydsPharmacy stated that it had decided to withdraw from its concession partnership with Sainsbury’s following a recent strategic review that identified “changing market conditions”. Recent reports have revealed that it is also selling a “significant” number of other sites across the UK following a period of widening losses and falling sales in a challenging pharmacy sector.
